Living Room Reveal

Hi Friends! I hope your weekends were full of relaxing with the ones you care about!!

Last week we showed you our dining room and the little changes we made that changed the space. You can read about that HERE later if you wish. πŸ™‚ Our living room is connected to our dining room and it was so difficult not to show you the whole space at once. Well, today I would like to share with you our living room!

This is a room that gets a lot of living from our family. The baskets underneath our coffee table are filled with toys and usually they end up dumped all over the dark shag carpet! Occasionally, stepping on a lost Barbie shoe might make you squeal like a little girl.

But today, we tidied up just for you!
That personalized coffee table has been through a big transformation! You wont believe what it use to look like! It is serving us well in its new life by helping us keep the inevitable toy clutter to a minimum.

As you can tell from looking around, we love a pretty neutral space with some pops of colour. The vintage globes and throw pillows incorporate our favourite colour of happy turquoise blue.

We love to mix expected traditional items with some fun vintage pieces and add in some upcycled furniture to keep the space unexpected.

We love that the living room, dining room and kitchen are all on one floor and how the whole room gets flooded with gorgeous sunlight.
I know it might be a tad blinding, but I love the reflective qualities of the glass top coffee table, the picture frames on the gallery wall and the china cabinet doors. Bouncing sunlight makes my heart smile.

If you look beside the far window you may spot the over sized measuring stick. (It still does not have a permanent home!) It was such a fun diy project though and it turned out cute enough to be displayed…just waiting to find the best spot for it!

Our china cabinet lives beside our sofa and holds my collection of white dishes.

I am in love with white dishes, and white vases! During the warmer months we like to utilize them and usually have one or two of those vases filled with fresh cut beautiful blooms from our little wild garden in our teeny back yard.
The kids love to pull down the vintage globes that add a pop of blue and height to the top of the cabinet. And I have to agree, I love to spin them too, to feel the raised mountain ranges and to marvel at how vast the world is. πŸ™‚

On the same wall as our curial cabinet we have our two re purposed side tables. They were painted white and some sea grass baskets were added to them for some extra storage. The lamps that flank the couch were also a diy project.

It is very rare to find vintage lamps in a set!
Before these curvy beauties got a light sand and a couple coats of matte white spray paint they were a bossy brassy colour.

Now they blend into our room. πŸ™‚
Dressing them with some matching shades make them look good as new! They are also perfect task lighting during late night tv watching and book reading.

Our couch set has stood the test of time, so for now, we enjoy the set since it adds so much seating when we have social gatherings. Eventually I would love two chairs in front of this window. That way, we could have more access to that glorious sunlight and we could move seating around the room more easily. I just have to talk the hubby into it. πŸ˜‰ Maybe after our constant renovationss are complete? I would so much rather spend money on pretty items rather than 2 by 4s that are hidden in walls. I am such a woman. πŸ˜‰

This is the new view from my future chairs the love seat. Our feature wall was a long loving diy project. πŸ˜‰

This round pedestal table also had a makeover with some white paint and some new sparkly hardware. I love this little knob for its subtle chic vintage quality. Doesn’t white paint make everything better?? The chippy aqua basket underneath travels around our house filled with toys. I love how the kids can take their toys back to their rooms easily after picking up their things.

Little trays and bowls help us keep important items in one place and easily accessible.

Our gallery wall is a work in progress and is made up of new and old silver frames.

Our family pictures are displayed in black and white with large white mattes.

You can find the makeover for this little wicker foot stool (pictured below) HERE.

The living room is long and we are actually lucky enough to have a little space for a desk area.

You may have seen this little desk area before in a past post. It is such a great little area for opening mail, writing a letter and doing homework.

We converted our desk bench into a filing cabinet. It is perfect, to pop open the lid and file the overflow of kids homework and important papers — all in one place. (DIY post for that to come.)

This silver filing shelf is perfect for that paper work you aren’t quite ready to file away. The tall free standing lamp beside the desk got a coat of silver and a simple white drum shade.

The striped curtains are on all three large windows and help to unify the whole space. We added new painted wooden blinds to each window to add an extra bit of privacy during the evenings. My handy man hubby continued the crown moulding through the living room and replaced the floor trim for a more cohesive finished look. Lastly, we painted the rooms this bright creamy tone and replaced the lighting.

I hope you enjoyed looking into our world for a little bit.  πŸ™‚

We love how livable this space is for our family and the small children that bounce on the couches and colour on the coffee table.

We are now going to go back to pulling out all of the toys and putting sticky fingerprints back onto all the reflective surfaces. πŸ˜‰

We hope you have a blessed day!!!

Had to laugh when you said to clean it up for the pics..now back to sticky fingers etc. how true it is, but it's a relief not to be too precious about things . Your livingroom looks calming, and pretty. I like lots of light too. you guys had amazing vision with your feature wall.
    Thanks for sharing jojo πŸ™‚
