Happy Family Day!
My kids greeted me this morning by hollering at the top of their lungs, “Happy Family Day! I love our family!” It was too cute and made me immediately smile.
Today is meant to be a day off for most workers and a time to spend enjoying family and friends. My hubby has to work today though, and so we, the kids and I, are enjoying dumping all of our puzzles out on the ground, and trying to put them back together (without the baby crawling away with some loose pieces).
I wanted to share with you, something that you and your family could make together today!
My kids love to crack eggs, dump cups of flour and whisk it all together with a whirling cloud of flour dust around them.
I am always trying to squeeze more protein into our foods and meals, and baking in this house, is no exception.
I have been tweaking my recipes for years, attempting to omit all white flour, suggar and make the change to baking that utilizes whole wheat flour, and no oil or butter.
This “Protein Hawaiian Bread” is delicious, you wont miss all the ingredients we have left out, and instead you will taste all the richness that this delicious clean bread offers.I hope you try it today, or put it into your recipe box for another time.
You will need:
Whole wheat flour 2 cups
Vanilla Protein Powder 1/2 cup
Baking Powder 1 tablespoon
Salt 1/2 teaspoon
Egg 1
Milk 1 cup
Banana 1/2 of one
Crushed/ drained pineapple 1/2 cup
Walnuts 1/2 cup
Coconut 1/4 cup
Optional 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
Turn oven on to 400F. Spray your loaf pan with low fat non sticking spray.
In a small bowl, beat egg until frothy, mix in milk, half a banana and crushed pineapple. In a second bowl mix flour, protein powder, baking powder and salt into another bowl. Make a well, or hole in the centre of your dry ingredients bowl and pour in your wet ingredients into the well.
Mix thoroughly and pour into your loaf pan. Top with walnuts coconut and a sprinkling of cinnamon if you choose.
This should make two loaves. Put your loaf pans in your preheated oven at 400F for approximately 20 minutes, oven time does vary. Take out of oven when a tooth pic is inserted in the middle and comes out clean.
Now you can dig in to your protein packed Hawaiian bread with its delicate flavour and fine texture. You and your family can go back to finishing those puzzles and searching for that last piece the baby shuffled away with, and enjoying your Family Day.
From our family to yours.
Much love, many laughs, and may crazy music fill your home as you make memories today.
