Things Are Looking UP {New Living Room and Dining Room Ceiling with METRIE}

Growing up my parents were the first ones to open their front door to others.

Multiple times a week my mother would add another one or two place settings around the dining room table at dinner time.

As kids, this was just a normal evening occurrence.

Typically those who were lonely, displaced, hungry, single or just wanting to be around the table with a hot meal and my mother’s warm disposition would pull up a chair and join us.

My parents hosted support groups, church meetings, neighbourhood camps for children and everything else in between in their home.

Their space wasn’t extravagant or the largest in the neighbourhood — but their hearts were.

When my husband and I started renovating homes and interior spaces for the public in 2017 we also began partnering with companies to offer discounted and free makeovers for our communities.

“Life’s persistent and most urgent question is, “What are you doing for others?”

-Martin Luther King

My husband and I are so driven by having a purpose and passion for a project. The free renovations we have offered our community have become known as “The Porch Project” series. They have always been such a fun way to give back and surprise families by showing up on their porch with our tools and imagination to ultimately redo a space in their houses to make them really appreciate their homes again.

It was an easy decision to create a laundry room for a busy mom of five and to gift a master bedroom for an amazing couple and to create a nursery for these beautiful twins . You can check out the whole makeover and collaboration here.

Most recently my parents aging home that welcomed the whole neighbourhood into it experienced a massive leak in the ceiling and the decision was simple again. We would gather our resources, join forces with amazing local businesses and surprise my incredibly giving parents with an updated space they could continue to give back from.

Think, the ultimate gift that keeps on giving!

Thanks to our amazing sponsor, METRIE https://www.metrie.com/ we were able to completely revamp their space with mouldings, trim work and casings.

This whole project was started after a terrible roof leak led to a dilapidated dining room ceiling, but after a final and incredible upgrade, the space is complete with this incredible tongue and groove ceiling.

I am obsessed with how we joined the two separate dining and living room spaces with this beautiful wood ceiling.

The rooms now look cohesive, clean lined and have so much more character added to them now.

I can’t wait to take you on the journey to show you how we went from this view above….to this view….
