Master bedroom furniture dilemma!

Happy Friday friends! I hope you all are gearing up for a relaxing weekend…or a project filled weekend – like us!
Around our little estate, nothing is completed. Though, I think everyone lives like that.
I love a house that is evolved over time but sometimes it would be really nice just to sit back and relax. That isn’t happening any time soon with three babies and a list as tall as me! (thank you from refraining from the short jokes.)
Our master bedroom is always evolving and changing. It started off as a blank boring box.
See?? I wasn’t exaggerating. It was boring and a cold grey-blue. When we first saw the house there was nothing that made it say “Master bedroom”. There weren’t any special architectural features or eye catching lighting. There was however two “boob” lights. I know all the men just smiled, despite themselves.
There was however a teeny tiny en suite bathroom with
an itty bitty tub sink and toilet at the end of a little hallway.
On both sides of the little hallway there are “his” and “hers” closets that are across from each other.  I guess that would be the only indicator that this room is in fact THE master.
We obviously knew going into the sale that this room was small and would be challenging for us, but we sacrificed all of our wants to buy this house because it was in the best location for our children.
If you are just catching up on our posts, we moved so my younger sister could move in when she was done her post secondary schooling.  You can catch up on the story HERE. As home searches go, sometimes there are slim pickings and as we searched right before Christmas two years ago.
This Little Estate sits directly across the street from our sons school and just one street over from my in laws who are such a help to us and our young family.
The circumstances made us look for a home with more room, and yet, we decided that this was the house for us because it meant our babies were going to live closer to some of our loving family and that we could be seconds away from their school that we adored.
Since we sacrificed size and style we have been trying to make up for it ever since.

I started by painting and stenciling the wall behind our bed making it what your eye is drawn to when you walk into our room. My hubby started on some chair rail and wainscoting moulding (but bathrooms and kitchens trumped that project)! We replaced our builder grade light with this white drum shade chandelier combination. And finally, we recently upgraded our queen size bed for a king size one. It made sense for us since our babies all end up sprawled between us by time the morning came. Each and every day. But now we need a replacement bed…or headboard…(thoughts and comments welcome!)
I took this next picture this past summer and hoped that it would give us some ideas on what to do for storage in our small bedroom. We had our side-tables-ikea-dressers since we were married seven years ago. They were not holding up very well though and we were on the hunt for new furniture.

This is how our room looked with our old Ikea side tables. They looked fine here, but let me tell you that you can only reinforce the bottoms of dressers for so many years when you stuff them full of clothing. Eight years was a long life for these well used and well loved dressers.
We talked about our newest bedroom furniture addition here and all the work it took to get to this “After“.
This dresser is now on the wall at the foot of our bed.
It is the first thing we see when we wake up and I love its makeover and the little messages we can scribe to each other on our chalkboard wall.
Since making over the dresser and gaining more storage we have moved out the old dressers-side-tables that were on either side of our bed and have been on the hunt for replacements.
The only problem is most conventional bed side tables are too short for our high bed.
Now what do we do???
I have some thoughts ideas and projects running on repeat in my mind…
What to do, what to do…
I think Ikea is calling my name again…but this time we are going to do more then just assemble.
I feel an Ikea Hack coming on!!

Thanks for the comment on my blog. Your family is adorable, such cute little ones you have. I noticed you live in Guelph…my husband is from Belleville and our best friends are in London. I actually lived in Barrie during college and miss Ontario a lot!

Martha has a really neat headboard idea for small spaces. Yeah I know, shocking.
Anyhoo, put two tall narrow bookcases facing outward, behind your bed, top it with something board-like and add a front (the place where you'd rest your pillows). Does that make ANY sense? You wouldn't have side tables, though, you'd instead have behind-your-bed bookshelves and a wider-than-normal top to your headboard.

Love the stenciled wall. Where did you get your stencil?

An idea for your headboard – you could easily make an upholstered headboard, a board, foam, fabric/leather and some nailhead trim. It would be lovely against your glamorous wall.
