The older I get and the crazier my life becomes, the more I crave the serenity that comes along with anything white.
Our all white plate wall, against our creamy neutral wall, still brings me happiness.
I love that I can pick out my mother in laws plate, the platter from my own mother and all the different places where I found each perfect piece for our wall.
And most of all, I love that this wall continues to evolve.
This weekend our little family made the hour long trip to our nearest Ikea. Technically, we made a pit stop at Ikea after we spent the day at The African Lion Safari, and then, as always intended, we made another half hour drive past Ikea to our favorite little Indian restaurant.
So really, if we were honest, we drove an hour and a half for the best chicken and rice on this planet.
But anyways, while at Ikea, anticipating getting our favorite meal of all times, we threw our babies in the ball room and thanked the good Lord for a few minutes of peace and quiet. While, we meandered through the show rooms, I caught a glimpse of the prettiest little white dishes. They were made of the lightest metal, and had a delicate lace-like border. Knowing my husband was in a fabulous mood; sans kids and salivating for his next meal, I pointed excitedly at the little white frilly plates and asked if he “liked them?”.
He responded with a role of his eyes “Of course, darling wife, whatever you like!”
And so I snatched up as many as I could while he pulled me kicking and screaming guided me away from the gorgeous stacks of frilly goodness.
Once home, full of some fine Indian cuisine, I gathered some dollar store hooks and super glue and added a small bracket to the back of each plate.
Unfortunately, my grasping hands had only managed to cling on to two plates while at Ikea.
Because these are meant to be used on a table as a dish or a candle holder, Ikea thought of everything and put some little non-slip-pads on the bottom of each plate. This clearly, helps me out since the metal wont leave marks on our wall.
Those Ikea designers need a pat on the back, I tell you.
Ikea also came out with a large size lace style candle holder, to accompany the small ones that they revealed last year at this time. I bought one for $4.99 and added my new and old purchase to our fall table scape.
A set of two is always better then one anyways, right? Right!
Yep, white anything catches my eye. I cant help it, and I don’t want to. White everything makes me smile. π
That $5 metal vase has endless opportunities to help me organize our home, not to mention it will be indestructible to our rough and tumble kids and my clumsiness. I can almost picture them full of pretty art supplies and paint brushes….or assisting at a party by holding rolled napkins or pretty straws….endless possibilities are my favorite.
I think that trip to Ikea was one of our least expensive trips ever!
Two little plates for $1.99 each = $3.99
$3.99 plates + $4.99 frilly vase = $7.99
$7.99 + 1 happy wife = Priceless!!!
What do you think about white in your home? Do you love it as much as I do? Would you have grabbed the big frilly edged white vase too? And the frilly candle holders turned plates? Are plate walls still “in”? Or am I really evolving into a Grandma at age 30? lol
Think about it and let me know in the comments, in the mean time can you spot where our two new frilly plates have ended up on our plate wall?? π
Happy plate hunting!

October 18, 2013 at 3:15 pmHi, I think I have finally caught up on all your blog posts! I just want to tell you that your blog is very well done. I like that it is Canadian, I have family in Guelph,so that makes it even better. I would rank your blog right up there with the best of them. Keep up the great work. One can tell you have a talent for writing and engaging the reader. Have you got any sponsors yet? I would not be surprised that you do,or soon will have. Are there any other "Canadian blogs"that you would recommend?

October 20, 2013 at 10:32 pmWow, thank you so much for your kind words, Alice. They made my day! Im so glad you are reading along and enjoying our little estate. π Im not taking sponsors right now, mainly because I need to figure out all the behind the scenes blog stuff first. Since Im not naturally tech savvy, this has taken longer than anticipated!
I love a few Canadian blogs! I love Rambling Renovator, Natural Mommie, In the fun lane and The DIY mommy. There are many more I love but those are the first that came to mind! π
PS: SO cool that some of your family is from Guelph too!!
Hope this finds you enjoying your day!
