Mudroom Makeover {One Room Challenge: THE REVEAL!!}

We have lived without a place to hang our hats, for a whole year.

But with another winter approaching, we knew we had to change all that.

So, we figured, lets take on a little  BIG renovation and participate in our first ever One Room Challenge !

If you’re new here, the One Room Challenge is a chance for bloggers, designers (and any crazy person really, who loves a deadline!) to revamp one room in their home in five weeks time.

If you want to get caught up with our six weeks and all of the messes we have made you can check that all out below.

This project was undoubtedly a challenge for us and was surprisingly the most detailed read: lonnngggggg project we have taken on. Which is crazzzzzzy to us since we have renovated two kitchens and many bathrooms. This little mudroom/makeover had a lot going on in here and was essentially gutted and rebuilt by my Handy Hubby and I in the last few weeks. Although, this project took much more than anticipated, it also taught us a lot about perseverance and tested how little sleep we actually need.

We will save all the nitty-gritty-dirty-plan-derailing details for another post though. If you’ve been following along weekly, you have seen your share of dirty. TODAY is all about finally revealing what my Hubby and I have been up to day in and day out for five weeks.

(Seriously, we almost slept in here last night since we were up till 2AM working our little bums off in here! Today we were back at it, and I literally just snapped these pictures before work tonight to share with you now. PHEWFFFF. That was a close one.)

Are you ready?? We sure are! We even cleaned up for you!!Won’t you come in?

With this mudroom makeover finished we finally have a place that will help to keep our busy lives organized! Bring on winter toques, mitts, hats, snow pants and all those other Great-White-North-Canadian atrocities. 😉

In this hard working space, we added a combination of open coat storage in the form of a line of black iron hooks, and built in an IKEA corner closet to give us some closed storage.

Cause, the truth is guys, sometimes you just need closed storage so you can stuff all things inside before company comes knocking.

We covered the whole space in shiplap and painted it all a creamy white. “Cloud White” by Benjamin Moore really warms up the room. We love how the combination of our warm hearing bone wood ceiling, combined with the subtle cream undertone of the walls, allows our crisp white METRIE trim to stand out.

Hello, all of the wood elements!!

We didn’t want this space to feel like an after thought so we put as much care as we could in making this space an organized and useful space as well as being a pretty and functional room.

This space is connected to the less formal entrance at the back of our home. The back door connects us to our yard and we imagine, as we work this home in more, it will be the entrance our nearest and dearest come calling to. Therefore, we wanted this space be a room that is warm and inviting no matter what type of weather rages outdoors.  We knew this space had to double as a hard working laundry room, mudroom, and a utility space for our family, so we were convinced we needed to dress it up in products that would stand the test of time. For us, there was no question, METRIE’S finishings were where we needed to start.

Every inch of this space is now covered in heavy duty, sturdy, wood. We have kids after all and I have seen my share of muddy boots being slung across a room.

We used 9 inch METRIE baseboards and painted them a glossy white for easy cleanup. We framed our planked walls with METRIE crown and installed beautiful and solid Masonite doors.

Above them, we hung three gorgeous mirrors from Leon’s.

In a space that is void of all traditional furniture we knew our accessories had to make a big impact in this space. So we chose these three long and luxurious Elizabeth Floor Mirrors and installed them in a row across the room’s one bare wall.

Instant glam!

By adding these beauties to our space, they not only make our space look much bigger, but the reflective nature of mirrors are quite functional when leaving the house.

Now I have no excuses to be walking around town with paint splattered all over myself and lipstick on my teeth!!

If perhaps, these mirrors do reveal that I am in fact clad in another paint smeared outfit again, I can just toss that outfit in to the washing machine. It is literally a shirt toss away!

We made over our laundry into stackables and tucked them away in the corner of our space. By doing so we created so much room for folding all the things.

A trio of cabinets now house all of my salon color for my home business. Which is conveniently located above our original 1950’s cast iron sink for easy bowl and brush cleanup.

We scrubbed that old beauty of a sink up, as best as we could, and painted the belly of it a matte black to match our cupboard hardware.

Big plus? This color also disguises the sink’s plastic black piping and will hide any color spills. Less cleaning more living!

We added under mount lighting for convenience sake, but I’m hoping that doesn’t mean I have to actually spot treat everything the right way now, since I can finally see everything and all….

(Watch out for a tutorial on this custom laundry folding table!) It now holds four laundry baskets that will make transferring laundry to all four bedrooms in our house quite painless.

But, if you know us, you know putting laundry away happens as often as us winning the lottery.

#never

If you know us, you know we don’t like  putting laundry AWAY or actually DOING laundry either. BUT, now we don’t really have an excuse not to! This room isn’t scary anymore!

Now we also cannot blame the washing machine for “shrinking” our favorite jeans thanks to this sweet little print.

Above our bossy laundry instructions, we hung an old tray turned message board, to display other important notes and inspiring thoughts.

The last five weeks we have definitely chased after our passion to create and love the reminder to chase after compassion too. (Thank you to my beautiful friend for sending this lovely reminder to us. #theporchproject)

After many MANY long days and nights, I actually cannot wait to use this room and mess it up!  After all, isn’t that what living and loving in a home is all about??
Bring on the dirty boots from running in the back field, snow flake covered mittens from building snowmen, and all the sport accessories after afternoons spent having fun together!

After all the bonding Handy Hubby and I have done in this space over the last five weeks, this new to us space is already starting to feel like home.

Thanks for following along and for all the love you guys sent to us via Instagram! We are so lucky to have such an amazing cheering squad.

PS: Stay tuned for a little corner of this space that has yet to be revealed! I think you’re gonna love it!

This is one of my favorite ORC makeovers…this room is amazing! Your shiplap is gorgeous and I'm loving the mirrors you added. I agree…shiplap is amazing defense against what kids can throw at it 🙂 Congrats on a great job! Kristin @ Postbox Designs

Awe. I love all of this, because I love who you are so much!! And honestly, so honored that you loved my postcard enough to display AND post it. Wow. Thank you so much. If you think of me every time you look at it, then perhaps though distance and time we connect over the mutual pursuit to love better and deeper. Although, I believe you naturalkydo it so well. Be blessed:)
