Simple Sunday {Goodbye Summer}

Happy first day of Fall y’all!!
This weekend has been cold and rainy where we are, and it certainly has felt like Autumn for a while now. I love how fall is basically summers encore, and how the world puts on its greatest show with the gorgeous colours of Fall.
I know we have all been bombarded with beautiful white pumpkins and gorgeous fall wreath ideas for weeks now, but today officially marks the first day of this new season.
Today though, I am not looking at Halloween costumes, or trying out new pumpkin recipes, or pouring over magazines with the big cable knit sweaters that I adore, no, today I am saying goodbye to summer.
Summer is my all time favorite season, and this year we enjoyed every waking minute of the sunshiny summer days.
Pink was the colour that seemed to pop up everywhere this year, so this morning I have been reminiscing about beach days past and the pinks and golds that we all loved wearing through this summer of 2013.
Today, these beauties reminded me of the sunsets that painted shades of orange and pink across summer skies and about the pink that showed in my babies flushed cheeks while we enjoyed long summer day adventures.
It is time to say goodbye to all the the pinks, the flowers, the sunsets, the late evenings, the dinners on the deck and the crickets songs.
It is time to pick the last flowers of the season, and to breathe in their scent.
To memorize the softness of their petals, the fine texture and detail in each one, and to reflect on the majestic shape of each bloom.
Beauty makes me think bigger, dream bigger and ultimatly leaves me in awe of the Creator of all things beautiful.

Beauty, not laziness, makes me turn a blind eye to the not-so-beautiful sights around our home.
And, you know what?
I think there is something spiritually pure in that.

Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.
Ok, and if I am totally off, and focusing on the “lovely” does not actually mean ignoring my laundry piles, paper piles and shoe piles, then I don’t wanna be right.
I would rather, take a few moments to happily dwell in thankfulness at this summers beauty, and to truly fill my heart with gratitude.
This summers harvest of flowers is certainly “worthy of praise” and today I am praising the Maker of all things pure and lovely.
Wont you too, ignore the messes and the long to do lists, and instead rest with a heart that is bursting with gratefulness. There are few moments in time that permit a time to sit down and the changing of a season always begs me to pause.
Today we say goodbye to a gorgeous summer but with open arms we welcome in the beauty of Fall.

Hello, yes it is time to pick the last of the flowers and bring them in out of frost's way. I have some pink roses still blooming as they are near the house and are sheltered from frost. I enjoy reading your blog. Glad you are keeping it real with laundry pile etc.
