Liebster Award!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my American friends!!!

I wish we were indulging in delicious food and embracing family and friends this weekend too! Instead, we will be setting up our Christmas decorations and going for a nice long hike at some point. Eat something pumpkin for me please!!

On this day, where some of us are remembering all that we are thankful for, I just wanted to say how thankful I am for YOU!

You, who stop by and read this little blog and who comment and let me know that you feel inspired! That is my hope with this and I am so thankful to have made so many new connections in this world of like minded lovely people and strengthened relationships with others as we discuss creating in general!

Speaking of lovely people, last week I got a quick note from Kelly at The Lily Pad Cottage, informing me that I was nominated for a Liebster Award. That same day Claire from The Rustic Pig nominated me for a Liebster Award; I had to find out what this was all about!

I haven’t won an award since — well ever! Except maybe that one time when I got a “thank you for participating” award at a track and field event. So, I quickly found out that “liebster” is a German word meaning sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome. That is a lot of positive adjectives! The Liebster Award
is given by seasoned bloggers to up and coming bloggers who have less than 200
followers. It is to show new bloggers that they are appreciated, and to help spread the
word about new blogs.
There are some
rules that go along with it:
1)You must post 11
random things about yourself
2)You must answer
the questions that the nominator set for you
3) You must create
11 questions for the people that you nominate
4)You must choose
11 blogs that you love (with less than 200 followers) and link them to your post and
let them know they were nominated
5) No tag
back
Soooo, here we go….
Eleven random facts about myself:
  1. I went to Private school for 14 years. That is from jk to grade twelve. Five months before graduation I convinced my parents to let me go to “real school”. Best decision ever!
  2. I come from a larger family. There are six kids. I am number four, second girl.
  3. I can’t whistle. I try, and I sound like a dying bird.
  4. Up until I was eighteen I always wanted to start up/work at/be involoved in an orphanage in Africa. Maybe after my own babies are older…
  5. When I was a child I would wear the frames of glasses with no lenses since I was blessed with 20/20 vision, yep, you can mock me. Now I would give anything not to actually need glasses.
  6. I have changed careers five times. This means finishing schooling to “be” something five times. Indecisive much? I am seriously a Jill of all trades at this point though…
  7. Our bedroom transforms into a cave at night so this mama bear can get her beauty sleep. This means a noise machine and eye masks, the more satin like and girly the better.
  8. When I was a little girl I delivered newspapers to my husband’s house. We grew up down the street from each other but didn’t meet in the city we both were from.
  9. Only a handful of people have seen me without makeup. I love me some mascara and blush and eye liner and powder and eyebrow pencil and so on…
  10. I can count on my hands how many times in my LIFE I have eaten red meat.
  11. I make lists for everything, I even have lists of my lists. I don’t discriminate either, lists can be written on receipts or napkins or baby wipes…the more the better.
  12. Clair from the Rustic Pig asked me to answer the following:
1. If you could be a superhero, which one would you be and why?
I would definitely be Captain America. After reading books to my superhero loving son, I came to love the understated story of the scrawny graphic designer that was overlooked to serve in war to protect and defend his country. I love that his “super hero strengths” are intelligence and agility and strength. Things that seem attainable. πŸ˜‰ I also, like that he uses his shield to protect himself as opposed to being the aggressor (Hulk anyone?) And, I think his outfit is pretty darn cute too. Gotta love a superhero that defends his country!
2. What is your favorite outfit? Oh my. I don’t know if I have a favourite outfit, but I DO have a “go to outfit”; the kind of thing I would wear to work and to just hang out with the kids. It would be black leggings and an over sized sweater or long shirt with a big pashmina type scarf. I am the layer princess so you would probably see me with a long sweater vest over that too, and a necklace or earrings on top of that. See, layering at its finest. πŸ˜‰
3. What is your biggest dream for your life? This is such a hard question to answer since I am a dreamer and always have been setting more and more goals for myself. I would love to see my children all grow up to be outstanding people and to be happy and treating this world well. Seeing my babies turn into strong, influential, caring individuals would be one of my biggest dreams fulfilled.
4. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? After being a mother I wanted to be a writer. I spent way too many hours creating fictional cities and fictional profiles for my characters. I still have a full box of these three ring note books filled with my stories. I guess in some way it is still something I would like to do — when I grow up.
5. What is your favorite piece of furniture in your house and why?
I am in love with our bed. We recently upgraded to a king size bed since the kids somehow end up piled in it with us. After years of sharing a double bed with my hubby it is nice to sleep like a star fish if I choose.
6. If you won the lottery tomorrow, what would you do first? I love this question! It gets my wheels spinning! I would first give 10% to my church. I believe in giving back to a people and a place that gives so much to me and my family. Then I would plan awesome ways to give money to each and every one of  our family members. After that I would give some to different charities that are close to my heart and put a lot away for my children. I could go on and on…I mean, couldn’t you? It is nice to dream about monetarily making others happy….I could go on all day…:)
7. What is your favorite vacation and why?
I went to France when I was a Senior in highschool, it was May and the smell of fresh coffee, bread and lilacs make me feel like I am there all over again. It was a place filled with so much charm, elegance and history! It was an amazing trip, but I wish I could go back again as an adult and as someone who loves learning about the past and art and wine and food and take it all in, in a different way.
8. If your life was a reality series, what would it be called? Marvelous Mommy Mayhem (Could be the book title too one day?)
9. Who do you look up to? My mother is my biggest inspiration. She is like a southern belle, domesticated in every way and sweet as pie. i would be shocked to find out if she has ever lied. She is the kind of person others want to be like. Full of grace, humility and charm. A perfect role model.
10. What is your biggest pet peeve? When someone asks to have a bite of my food. Its not that I don’t like sharing, or maybe it is? That combined with sharing someone elses slobber. Err, no thank you.
11. If you could talk to your 18 year old self today, what advice would you give? Oh my goodness. I could go on for hours about this one too….here is the quick version…I think…
  • I would tell my 18 year old self to stop tanning immediately, that a bronzed face is not worth the health risks and pre aging symptoms.
  • Stop working so many jobs, three at a time is too many for a high school student, you need to relax and have more fun, you will have the rest of your life to work!
  • Those girls that seem so snobby? They aren’t, they are actually just socially awkward, don’t be intimidated by them, instead go talk to them, you might make a new friend.
  • Don’t worry that you don’t know what you want to be when you grow up, you will change your mind five ore more times and still not know when you are thirty.
  • Social smoking is gross, when you are old you will want to take full credit for your lung capacity and wrinkles.
  • Read your Bible more, it isn’t just a book that cant apply to you, it is full of inspiration you depend on later.
  • Stop wasting your time making up that wedding list with that boy who says he will marry you, he marries your college best friend.
  • I know its hard to keep a journal but you will be so thankful for the times when you do, keep it up, you will treasure reading them later.
  • Travel now, and stop saying you will when you are older, you wont.
  • Build friendships with people who put in the same amount of effort with you as you do with them, make sure they are genuine and honest, this will save you so much heart ache.
  • Spend time with your family more, you will appreciate them so much in the future.
  • Start running this year, and stop saying you aren’t “a runner” you will love it and your legs will thank you.
Thank you so much Clair for the nomination!!!!! I had so much fun answering your questions. HUGS!!
Kelly from The Lily Pad Cottage asked these questions:
1) What is your
favorite food?
I could eat poutine for every meal for the rest of my life. Instead, I have never ordered it for myself, but I get the hubby to….and then I steal from his plate….
2) What is your New
Years Resolution going to be?
I would love to run more, to actually push myself to beat my own time and to enter some races. (And to stop sneaking bites of poutine..)

3) What article of
clothing could you not live without?
Slippers. When I am at home I am always wearing slippers. Gotta keep the footsies warm!
4) Are you a
morning person or a night owl?
I am a night owl. Though, before I had kids I was a morning person. The difference is now, I only have “me time” when the babies are in bed sound asleep and sometimes that isn’t till late, forcing me to be a night owl. πŸ˜‰
5) What is your
favorite thing about blogging?
I love inspiring other people to cook that meal they think might be difficult or to show them how to make that craft that they thought would take too much time/skill or patience. It is also pretty awesome to get nominated for awards like this and to get to know readers and bloggers better! I love the blogging community and how supportive others are. xo

6) If your house
was on fire what 3 things would you grab?
I would grab our external hard drive that is FULL of pictures. I am addicted to taking pictures of life in general and especially my sweet babies, so those pictures would be coming with me!
Second, I would grab a box of love letters my hubby has given me. It is a memory box full of special momentous and I would have to have it.
Thirdly, I would save a big Tupperware box that has special clothing in it. (I know that sounds silly, but it has my wedding dress and veil in it, the first dress I ever sewed, and outfits the kids wore home from the hospital or for their birthdays. Our daughters baptism/dedication dress, our sons first tux; special clothing that have lots of memories, and that my children may want to pass down to their children. )
7) What is the best
thing that you cook?
I just yelled up to my husband “What is the best thing that I cook?” he laughed, and jokingly correctly responded “Everything!” Then with further yelling and bantering, he decided that “Porcupine balls” won the title of best food made by me. (They are a combination of spices, ground beef, rice, tomato, peppers and onion. ) Not my fav, but he insists.
8) What is the best
gift you ever received?
I bought my first car from an old friend for $200 bucks. Though I paid a little for it, it was really a gift. It lasted three years and had nothing wrong with it. It was an older car but was the best gift to me. I learned to drive later then most, and it opened up a whole new world for me.
9) What is your
favorite book?
This is a hard one too! I cant pick just one!!! I love spiritually inclined books and know the Bible is right up there on my list of the most inspirational books. I also have great love for The Alchemist, Tuesdays with Morrie and The Red Tent..Women of Destiny….I could go on all day…
10) If you had an
afternoon to yourself what would you do?
I would grab a coffee and go shopping. I would go to every thrift store and to all my favourite home decor stores. Then lunch, since I would be famished from scouring deals all day, and ofcource all my favourite lady friends would happen to have the same lunch time slot available too. We would finish off our meal with ice cream and a long trail walk to catch up more. PERFECT afternoon.
11) What is your
favorite type of coffee drink?
Coffee. Plain and simple. HOT coffee with a little milk.

Oh man, I just loved answering these questions. If you are still reading this ( HI MOM!) then you need a reward of some kind. I’m sending you a mental high five for being awesome enough to make it to the end of this novel. See! I did write my first book! πŸ˜‰
